The Communications Team is responsible for advancing communications within and about FCRRP. Traditionally, this Team has focused on external communications (for example, developing outreach materials and engaging with media), however the Team will also be working to support internal communications (for example, centralization of communication resources and sharing information across teams).
The Communications Team is co-led by:
Maya Bhalla-Ladd (FDEP)
Shelly Krueger (FSG)
The Communications Team meets (at least) monthly to collaborate on common communications products, share opportunities to amplify partner messaging, and ensure that partners are up-to-date on the latest and greatest going on in FCRRP.
During the height of disturbance events like coral disease outbreaks or bleaching, the Team often meets more frequently to collaborate on time-sensitive communications, including facilitating discussion amongst response partners, collating field reports, and developing communication guidance materials.
Team members include representatives from Florida Sea Grant, DEP Coral Reef Conservation Program, FWC Fish & Wildlife Research Institute, NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program, NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Coral Restoration Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, Mission Iconic Reefs, Fish and Wildlife Foundation of Florida, and the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. If you are interested in joining the Team, please contact the Team Leads with some information on your organization and role in FCRRP activities.
Below are some resources developed by the Communications Team. If you participate in FCRRP and have communications needs or requests, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Information on 2024 thermal stress and bleaching in Florida, available for FCRRP partners to utilize in communications. Dated August 09, 2024.
Be On the Look Out (BOLO) for invasive soft coral along Florida's Coral Reef
Information on the summer 2023 thermal stress event. Dated August 02, 2023.
Key information on Florida's Coral Reef and stony coral tissue loss disease in the State.
Reinvigorate 'internal' communications for FCRRP partners. This may include centralizing information, disseminating information in multiple ways, and summarizing the work of other FCRRP Teams for general consumption.
Leverage existing strength in 'external' communications to support hopeful messaging, common talking points that address overall goals and purposes of FCRRP activities, and a media library.
Empower partners throughout FCRRP to more effectively communicate on their own, including through media training and centralized information for things like media contacts and subject matter experts.
Developing a suite of ‘welcome’ or ‘onboarding’ or ‘orientation’ materials to help new partners (or new members of existing partners) get up-to-speed on FCRRP and how they can engage.
Finding additional capacity to support the types of information collation and sharing that are required for a body as large and comprehensive as FCRRP.
