The Caribbean Cooperation Team works to facilitate communication across Caribbean coral reef jurisdictions, including Florida. The Team focuses on information-sharing, supporting collaborations across political boundaries, building regional capacity, and organizing learning exchanges. The Team has also supported the tracking of reports of common issues (like coral disease and invasive species) throughout the region, which is shared via the Atlantic and Gulf Rapid Reef Assessment (AGRRA).
The Caribbean Cooperation Team is co-led by:
Judy Lang (AGRRA)
Dana Wusinich-Mendez (NOAA CRCP)
While the group started under the umbrella of Florida's SCTLD Response, the Caribbean Cooperation Team has expanded beyond Florida's structures into its own international network. Today, the Team meets regularly virtually to share information and latest news on topics of regional interest, such as urchin die offs and coral bleaching. In addition, the Team hosts webinars, learning exchanges, and workshops to help build capacity for coral conservation, share cutting edge research, and develop best practices. The Team works to make information and communication products accessible in multiple languages.
True to its name, the Caribbean Cooperation Team reaches across political and geographic boundaries for the benefit of coral conservation in the region. The Team boasts participants from every corner of the Caribbean, with colleagues joining from over 30 countries and jurisdictions in the region as well as partners from regional bodies, international organizations, and even from nations outside the Caribbean who do work in the region.
The Atlantic Gulf Rapid Reef Assessment (AGRRA) website houses a wealth of information on collaborative products and other resources on a range of topics, including SCTLD, coral reef restoration, coral reef monitoring, and more! Visit the webinars page for virtual webinars hosted by AGRRA and other partners.
